Data Ingestion & Holdings Methodology
The Investment Thesis & Website Purpose: Single-Stock Exposure Without Single-Stock Risk
Dividend Seeker was built around a straightforward portfolio strategy: when you identify a high-quality dividend payer or capital compounder, buying the individual equity outright exposes your capital to uncompensated single-stock downside, earnings shocks, or dividend cuts.
By searching for that specific ticker across SEC Form N-PORT filings, income investors can discover ETFs, closed-end funds (CEFs), and mutual funds that carry substantial allocations to that company. This allows you to capture the upside and cash-flow drivers of your target stock while wrapping the position in broad institutional diversification.
1. Primary Regulatory Data Source
All portfolio positions, asset weights, share counts, and market values are ingested directly from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) database.
Under SEC Rule 30b1-9, all registered management investment companies (including mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, and closed-end funds) must file monthly portfolio schedules on Form N-PORT.
2. Ingestion & Normalization Engine
- XML Extraction: XML payloads are streamed directly from EDGAR submissions across SEC quarter-end and month-end batches.
- Identifier Resolution: Holdings are cross-referenced across SEC Central Index Keys (CIK), CUSIP numbers, and exchange-listed tickers. Derivative overlays and synthetic swaps without physical share custody are filtered out.
- Portfolio Weight Calculations: Position weight percentages are computed based on reported net asset values (NAV) and reported market value balances on the specific reporting date.
